Project Background

For this Netherlands project, the customer required a compact high-voltage ESS that could provide around 100kWh of storage capacity in a single cabinet structure. The system needed to support C&I energy storage applications such as solar energy storage, backup power and energy management.

Avepower Solution

Avepower configured a 108.5kWh high-voltage ESS in a single high-load cabinet. The system uses 6 high-voltage battery packs + 1 high-voltage BCU box, installed inside one 42U cabinet.

Each battery pack is built with a 1P18S LiFePO4 configuration, using 314Ah cells. Six packs are connected in series to form a 1P108S battery cluster, delivering a nominal voltage of 345.6V DC and a working voltage range of 270V-394.2V DC.

Outcome

The final configuration provides a compact cabinet-based high-voltage ESS platform with 108.5kWh nominal energy. The system supports CAN communication, BCU monitoring and multi-level protection for voltage, current, temperature and battery status.

With a cabinet size of W600 × L1000 × H2055mm, the system is suitable for commercial energy rooms, solar-plus-storage projects, backup power systems and customized C&I storage applications.

Compact HV ESS Configuration

To keep the system compact and easier to maintain, Avepower designed the ESS as a single 42U cabinet solution.

Each cabinet includes:

  • 6 × 57.6V 314Ah high-voltage battery packs
  • 1 × high-voltage BCU box
  • 42U high-load cabinet with 7 shelves
  • Power cable assemblies

  • IP20 protection

108.5kWh / 345.6V HV ESS

The system is built around a 1P108S architecture. Each battery pack uses 18 cells in series, providing 57.6V / 314Ah / 18.0864kWh per pack.

Six battery packs are connected in series inside the cabinet to reach the final system specification of 345.6V DC / 314Ah / 108.5kWh.

The system supports a rated charge and discharge current of 100A, with maximum continuous charge current of 157A and maximum continuous discharge current of 200A under specified operating conditions.

Safety and Monitoring Design

For high-voltage ESS projects, safety and monitoring are critical. This system uses BMU and BCU coordination to monitor battery status and support system-level protection.

The BMU supports cell voltage detection, NTC temperature sampling, passive balancing, CAN isolated communication and fault detection. The BCU supports total voltage sampling, current sampling, temperature monitoring, insulation detection, SOC estimation and real-time communication with the upper-level control system.
